Challenging the usual thinking on what higher education, governments, businesses and society must do to help society meet the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the congress is a call to action for global universities and businesses to pivot their educational, research, innovation and outreach programmes towards tangible outcomes.
"Estonia has not only distinguished itself as an excellent study destination but also as a country where education is supported by a good living environment and a sustainable lifestyle," commented Eero Loonurm from the Education and Youth Board. "By combining Estonia's wise decisions in the internationalization of higher education, a green mindset, green initiatives that have reached a global level, and the high satisfaction of international students with the education they receive in Estonia, the result is a reputation that attracts attention from global organizations and on a broader scale."
The conference will feature speakers from the United Nations, UNESCO, the Ban Ki-moon Centre for Global Citizens, Asian Development Bank, the Women4Biodiversity initiative, and dozens of the world's top universities.
The university rankings compiled by Times Higher Education are among the most renowned in the world, and the congress will also present the latest 2024 "Times Higher Education Impact Rankings," which assess universities' contributions to achieving the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals.
Study in Estonia is a cooperative initiative that introduces Estonia as a country offering high-quality higher education opportunities. All Estonian institutions of higher education that offer at least one program taught fully in English and internationally recognized can participate in the program. The activities of Study in Estonia are coordinated by the Estonian Education and Youth Board and funded by the EU structural funds.
